Helena L. Bowes’ childhood memories are of her mother practicing shorthand and all the other duties that come with being a court reporter at the Lancaster County Courthouse. Helena attended Central Penn Business School to learn the steno theory, and practiced building her stenotype speed interning at the Federal Courthouse with her mother who was then a federal court reporter. To complete her education, Helena passed the National Court Reporters Association certification examination to be recognized as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) and began her court reporting career in May of 1979.
Helena enjoys being a volunteer with Yorkie Rescue Me, where she fosters Yorkshire Terriers, giving them a second chance for a forever home. To date, she has found homes for over 60 dogs with loving families. She also is a volunteer to provide transportation services for English Setters, assisting the dogs to get to either a foster home or their forever home.
Since 1996, Helena has been a big sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she has had several little sisters throughout the years.
